WOMB JAPAN CELEBRATES 25 YEARS WITH RICHIE HAWTIN
This year, one of Tokyo’s most legendary nightclubs, WOMB, commemorates its 25th anniversary with a special celebration on Saturday, April 19. Since its inception in April 2000, WOMB has been a cornerstone of Tokyo's electronic music scene, consistently delivering world-class parties and hosting renowned artists from around the globe. Expect a whole year of spectacular lineups as well as exclusive WOMB merchandise down the line.
Located in Shibuya's Maruyama-cho district, WOMB quickly established itself as a premier destination for dance music enthusiasts at the turn of the century. The club's main floor, with its colossal mirror ball, offers club-goers a captivating party experience in Japan’s capital. Over the years, WOMB has continually updated its music, sound system, production equipment, hospitality, and interior design, ensuring it remains at the forefront of the nightlife scene. Throughout its history, WOMB has garnered international acclaim. In 2005, it was ranked second in a list of top global clubs by Mixmag, a testament to its influence and reputation in the world of electronic dance music.
A significant highlight of the 25th-anniversary event is a much-anticipated performance by electronic music pioneer Richie Hawtin, an artist closely associated with WOMB since its early days. Hawtin's relationship with the club spans decades. His return for this milestone event underscores the deep connection between the artist and the venue.
In another unique collaboration for the anniversary, Richie Hawtin, WOMB, and Niigata’s Abe Sake Brewery have joined forces to create SPARK, a limited-edition sake available exclusively during the night. The anniversary festivities will span multiple floors, each offering a specifically curated musical experience, with visuals by VJ MANAMI:
- Main Floor: Headlined by Richie Hawtin, the lineup also features Machìna, renowned for her modular synth and vocal live sets, and Gonno, who delivered a memorable set at last year's anniversary.
- 1st Floor: Transformed into a sake lounge, guests can enjoy tastings of SPARK paired with quality dance music by Moodman, Satoshi Otsuki, and Word of Mouth.
- 4th Floor: Dedicated to drum & bass—a genre that WOMB has championed since its inception—this floor will showcase jazz-infused liquid sets from DJ AKi, DJ TOYO, VELOCITY, and DJ KEiTA.
