Inspired by the sound, breadth and open-ended architecture of modular synths, New Delhi-based Monophonik channels the quirks of free-flowing, synthesizer driven electronic music. Monophonik (Shatrunjai Dewan) creates unique sound sca pes based on machine-oriented notions and ideas in his productions and live shows. His hybridized sound is a result of exploring unconventional and perplexing musical ideas while unleashing the sonic possibilities of quintessential analogue technology combined with modern day digital tools. Delving into the nuances and imperfections of synthesizers, Monophonik aims at conjuring stripped out, sometimes intense and tempera mental sounds, in an attempt to humanize his music. Blending influences from rave culture, growing up in India, and spending time in the UK, he has weaved his sonic identity into a unique genre fusing, full bodied output.

Monophonik’s releases often span through breaks, acid, techno, trance with hints of Goa, Delhi and beyond . His EP’s and singles have found homes on labels like Radiant Love, Daytimers, Reel Long Overdub and New Delhi based Qilla Records, with support from several reputed DJ’s playing his tracks out in radio mixes and festival sets.

With recent features on Mixmag, Resident Advisor, Beatport, Ransom Note and more, Monophonik has definitely caught the eye of many in the industry. His most recent release, in collaboration with Daytimers founder - RIVA, was released as a part of the Berlin based label ‘Radiant Love’s’ IWD compilation series earlier this year in the company of Roza Terenzi, D.Tiffany, Sansibar and more. With his involvement in the Day timers collective, Monophonik aims at bridging cross cultural boundaries, with continued collaborations and projects with artists from different parts of the world. Monophonik has established his ground as one of India’s most sought after live acts and has taken his live modular shows to festival stages like India’s Magnetic Fields Festival in Rajasthan, Boiler Room, Mumbai and to several states and clubs across the country, while also recently venturing out into venues in London and Leeds with his peak time, high energy DJ sets.
