Rooted in electronic music, rural is built around a singular idea: to design time itself. Under the banner of "A Peak Experience," rural has never been simply a place where music is played — it is a place where experience is carefully, deliberately woven. rural 2026 is where that vision continues to unfold.

Taking place over four days from Friday, July 17 to Monday, July 20 at Numajiri Kogen 〈nowhere CAMP〉, rural 2026 has been designed as a space where distinct currents converge into a single flow: the experimental spirit stirring beneath the surface of European culture, the liberated sensibility pulsing through Asia, and the deeply rooted local scenes scattered across Japan.
Making his long-awaited Japan debut, Al Wootton — an artist who continues to push the boundaries of his own singular vision — will be joined by fellow first-time visitors RS Tangent and Volodymyr Gnatenko, the latter performing his first-ever live set in Japan. Each carries a distinct sonic philosophy, and each promises to bring an unfamiliar gravity to the floor.
This year also sees an exceptional lineup of B2B sets born from deep mutual understanding and trust. The reunion of Lena Willikens and Vladimir Ivkovic as Willikens & Ivkovic marks their first shared stage in Japan in seven years — a rare opportunity to witness a bond that cannot be separated. The pairing of Jane Fitz B2B Dr.NISHIMURA, sure to be a highlight for the devoted, came to life following their encounter at rural GOA 2026 earlier this year at Jane Fitz's own request. Vladimir Ivkovic B2B Yadin Moha, one of the most celebrated selector pairings in the world, and Spekki Webu B2B OCCA — two artists who dismantle time and space — will each deliver sets that could only exist between them.
Jane Fitz and Lena Willikens will also perform solo sets, offering a deeper portrait of where each artist stands today. Joining them are NDRX, keeper of 〈BASSIANI〉 — a club that has etched a history of resistance and joy into Georgian culture — alongside Chhabb, who has long been a driving force of Mumbai's underground; Kiss Nuka, who channels her Indian roots and reverence for the natural world into both sound and image; and YuY, a Taipei-based artist whose refined and deeply personal aesthetic continues to evolve.
From Japan's local scene, a group of singular artists step in. YAMA, a cornerstone of Osaka's vinyl culture, makes their rural debut; MANISDRON brings a live set that bridges physicality and sound; and dj sniff offers a performance that pushes the turntable into new expressive territory. From the deepest corners come artists with a long-standing connection to rural — Akuma No Numa, DJ mew, MITAYO, suimin, and Kyomi — alongside the distinctly original units Enantiomorphs and Carpas Wiño Klint.
Tokyo-based YELLOWUHURU pushes house music toward new horizons, while rising producer Herbalistek brings bass music that is as hypnotic as it is experimental to the floor. Rounding out the lineup are APEPA, KAPI, LAP, and SOUKI — talents making their mark in regional scenes across Japan — together with resident DJ Toner and the tireless touring artists Atsushi Maeda and Nao.

Set against an expansive natural landscape, the OPEN AIR STAGE will feature 〈Void Acoustics Incubus〉— one of the world's finest sound systems, and a symbol of rural itself. The INDOOR STAGE will be equipped with 〈Danley Sound Labs〉, with this year's setup centered around four SBH20FF units — an upgrade from last year, tuned not for volume, but to envelop the floor with presence and depth.
Beyond music and sound, this year also brings significant developments in installation and spatial design. Woven throughout the site are new attempts to engage with place through light, structure, and bodily sensation.
One such presence is 〈UNICORN IMAGE〉, an independent film club originally from Guangzhou, China, now based in Arakawa, Tokyo. Stepping away from the dancefloor, surrendering to image and stillness — this space will add a new layer of depth to the contours of the experience. In Inawashiro, a place that is neither city nor club, music, art, nature, and people meet at their own pace. Within that overlap, rural continues to weave time that could only exist here.
〈nowhere CAMP〉spreads across one of Japan's finest hot spring regions, nestled at the foot of Mt. Adatara — one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains — and cradled by mountains and a lake. Removed entirely from the rhythms of urban life, the site is home to a carefully curated selection of food vendors, local sake and craft beer, and the "Extreme Onsen Tour," guided by locals into the area's distinctive hot springs. Camping and onsen are woven into the festival itself — the time spent here, at whatever pace feels right, becomes an experience entirely its own.
