Paramount 2023
After an untimely postponement in 2020, Paramount kicks off in full force to exemplify Japan’s vibrant open-air techno scene. The hotly anticipated one-day music festival unveils their lineup and timetable for this year’s event.
Returning to the picturesque Gunma Cycle Sports Center from May 27 to May 28, Paramount will bring back Planetary Assault Systems, Luke Slater’s iconic live project, with a momentous performance that marks a comeback to Japan after a decade-long hiatus. Joining him as double headliner is Rhadoo, the trailblazing artist who pioneered Romania’s minimal techno sound and continues to make waves with his exceptional talent.
While this announcement has already set dance music enthusiasts abuzz, the festival’s complete lineup also includes an impressive range of DJs representing various styles and backgrounds. Among the notable names is the Japan debut of Manfredas, esteemed curator and resident of Lithuania’s highly praised Opium Club, currently one of the global scene’s most cutting-edge venues. Brazil-born and Berlin-based The Lady Machine is yet another act making their inaugural appearance in the country. Rising star Ciel, a Canadian producer, is guaranteed to fill the dance floor with her selections.
Another outdoor festival favorite, Sunju Hargun from Thailand amplifies the mounting excitement. Widely recognized for his first release in Japan from Kalahari Oyster Cult, the Karma Klique host and Equation Festival resident brings his hypnotic brand of techno to the stage. Meanwhile, the contemporary dub techno duo Primal Code promises to deliver an immersive experience with their unforgettable blend of organic and atmospheric elements.
Rounding off the lineup are domestic acts and festival co-founders Hidai, Mimu, NOCO, as well as TAAAHHH, who together form OtOdashi Sound System. The collective has spared no expense in customizing their pristine, high-resolution sound quality setup that incorporates German TW Audio speakers, Italian Powersoft amplifiers, Bozak desk top mixers, and meticulously chosen cables and components. The resulting synchronism between this state-of-the-art audio system and the extraordinary performers should not be missed.
The participation of various local and independent artists is yet another significant festival highlight. Environmental and stage design harmonize with the natural surroundings, while food stalls, boutiques, workshops, and family-friendly activities provide additional entertainment during the event. There are several campgrounds throughout the venue, while Paramount also offers various ticket options, including discounts for attendees under the age of 25 as well as bus transport.
Book your tickets now and invite your friends and family for this one-of-a-kind festival that pushes the boundaries of music and culture.
