Something wickedly exciting is lurking just around the corner. This October, (Re)treat Festival returns for its third edition. Summoning all party gremlins, ghouls, and fiends to emerge from the shadows and gather under the Halloween moonlight for a ceremonial weekend of rave and debauchery in Mai Châu, Vietnam, approximately a 4-hour bus ride from the capital, Hanoi.

The hair-raising festivities commence over 3 days and 2 nights, from October 27 to 29, across two stages surrounded by staggering nature. Starting out in the Garden Stage located at Mai Chau Ecolodge, festival attendees can avail of onsite refreshments while basking in the mystical environment and hypnotic sounds. As night descends, the second stage is set. Across the street, a flight of stone steps leads to the gaping maw of Mỏ Luông Cave, beckoning party-goers to enter the void. Who knows what awaits inside the eerie cavernous depths?

The festival’s menacingly formidable lineup is sure to send shivers down your spine. Headliner Soichi Terada (Far East Recording; JP) will perform a live set of musical wizardry, casting spells with rhythm and beats. Midland’s (InterGraded; UK) tunes weave through one’s senses like specters whispering in your ear, while DJ Masda’s (Cabaret Recordings; JP) flawless fusions of house and techno get your blood pumping. Another set not to miss, Gonno (Ostgut Ton; JP) mesmerizes with deep basslines, dark flair, and acidy melodies.

Other international acts joining the lineup include Aaguu, Camion Bazar, Discrete Circuit, Honcho, Shy Beef, and Zhiqi. And of course, representing the best of Vietnam for this supernatural soirée are stalwart names like Di Linh, Hibiya Line, and TaoFu. Another highlight is the collaborative takeover between Snug, Peach, and GenderFunk, three of the country’s most recognized LGBTQ+ crews, presenting a diabolical drag show in the cave.

As always, the ethereal spectacle is complete with stage design by Holland Create and atmospheric visuals and lighting by Thailand’s Human Spectrum.

With the ghostly echoes of musical talent reverberating through the ancient cave walls and emanating into the open air from the grassy fields, it’s an uncanny experience that’s not likely to be matched anywhere else. So mark your calendars, don your spookiest festival gear, and dive into the thrills and chills of (Re)treat’s otherworldly offerings.
